chocolate Oatmeal cake(Eggless)

                                                       Eggless oats and wheatflour cake
Oats, wheatflour and honey..No sugar and no refined flour..What does it work out to? A gorgeous looking, moist and gooey chocolate cake!!!! A healthier option to your regular chocolate cake with just a few variations.
Well, my latest passion is to master the art of substitutes in baking, especially in cakes and muffins..Off late I have made a conscious decision to stay away from refined flour or rather found out healthy solutions to replace the same ..with increased number of health issues that have been linked to maida or refined flour  and the negative connotations attached to its ‘no food value’ factor,I would rather switch to the other myriad healthier options of whole wheat or oats or quinoa or semolina..its just that refined flour does have a certain taste which is difficult in a way to achieve through its replacement while oats and wheatflour is slightly dense ..but if creative enough you could do wonders with just about anything..all you need is the right twist and combination of ingredients working out to a flavorful taste and texture..many a times it is a distinct perceptible flavor like in this cake which is even better then your regular cake..
For me oats is always a favored cereal over others..the taste of oats is versatile enough to adopt to any dish and the base of oats is bold enough to work out an exciting flavor can boast of many newly invented healthy dishes..
So for  me oats as a combination works great as a base to give a texture to any dish .And with cake it forms a perfect texture. But of course with their combined taste it does taste and smell a tad different..this is where creativity comes in ..a prolific baker would work out a quick twist to create a magical aroma..for me the combination of orange juice and coffee camouflages the original taste to such an extent that this new flavor dominates the cake imparting a totally gorgeous taste..
Also , the replacement of refined sugar with honey is pure bliss. No misgivings or fear of refined sugar as well. Honey gives a healthy twist to the resultant cake with its sweetness and no fear of sugar. You could also use maple syrup if you wish
Absolutely tasty ,soft and moist, gooey and qualms about refined flour.
I have made the egg less version here but with 2 eggs it will taste even better.
Whole wheat flour -1 cup
Powdered oats -1/2 cup
Cocoa powder-3tbsp
Butter -1/4 th cup
Boiling water-11/4 th cup
Baking powder-1 tsp
Baking soda -1 tsp
Orange juice -3 tbsp
Vanila essence -1 tsp
Crushed cardamons-2
You can also use half boiling water and half milk
For the egg version, add 2 eggs and reduce the quantity of water
  • Powder the oats in a blender
  • Mix the oats, whetaflour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda
  • In a bowl, beat the butter and add the orange juice and vanilla essence
  • Add the dry ingredients and keep mixing by adding little water
  • Mix until a smooth batter is formed, adding honey as well
  • Add and mix the crushed cardamons and raisins
  • Preheat the oven in 200 degrees
  • Grease a baking pan, pour the batter and bake for 40- 45  mins

Absolutely moist and soft you will hardly feel any difference between a flour based cake..yes while its hot it might smell a tad different but once it cools down the taste settles down to a normal light decadent soft and fluffy cake..Inspite of oats and atta(wheatflour) being a denser then refined flour the cake works out to be very light..
For all your health conscious reasons this cake is just perfect…with the extra fiber and nutrients that oats boasts off ;this is definitely your healthier version of your regular cake and you will not regret, rather this might just go on to be your favorite new found cake
