Egg Chop ( Egg stuffed potatoes patties)

So true to my culture..I love these immensely, a profound love exists within me which is predisposed .
Egg chops, chicken and egg rolls, momos, mughlai parathas, fish cutlets, all are common fodder for snacks in the eastern region of the country ,and cooked in a typical style that depicts a certain culture, the north east and the eastern belt to be specific.

Across the streets, you would be exposed to various vendors in stalls rolling out the most amazing snacks, be it the chicken or egg rolls or the frankie that is called in some other parts of the country which is chicken chunks filled inside a roll made of white flour and egg wash, or the fish cutlets or egg chops..They are not to be relished or savored but DEVOURED! That’s the strength of the incredible taste..Yes deep fried in oil it is, yet the taste of these snacks is so awesome that the count of your calories or your BMI index has no meaning as you relish your first bite..And while you do get these in mumbai at some  bengali food joints too especially hangla( which is fast gaining popularity amongst people as a bengali authenic fast food joint), oh calcutta, calcutta club, bhojohori manna, bijoli grill or even the very popular Bhima”s roll in Andheri West .Yet the taste, aroma, flavor and the texture of these small blissful joys are unmatched to the ones made back in my hometown in Guwahati(Assam)..they are unimaginably, irresistible, succulent, juicy and made with fresh meat and river water fish.Which is why the difference in taste including the spices of course.. While small joints and stalls across the streets would serve out the most amazing rolls, yet there is one joint that i can resonate with. FEEDS, the first of it kind of hangout/dating joint for the youth which served awesome fast food..It was a cool place then to be seen at feeds or meet friends over for a roll and cutlets(unlike today, how meetings and dates happen over a  a cup of coffee. That’s how life was then..For the love of rolls /chops/cutlets..

And while the Chicken roll amongst all of them stands tall in terms of popularity ratings, I love the egg chop which actually takes the place of the dark horse ; most often overshadowed by the roll and its surrounding hype. I love it, not only for the taste but the way it is made .And how simple it is to make at home.

And before I use this as my diary of penning down my childhood memories ,let me get back to the topic of my egg chops..Beautiful and yummy.

Absolutely, tasty, these needs not much of preparation ,just the technique and the mix of the egg and the potatoes is what makes this combination so glorious.. Yes, deep fried ,hence I would not really suggest this as  a regular feature, however on occasions, this is unmatched to any other desi snacks that you could imagine..Unique and undeniably yumilicious, these always have bee a hit during house events , not only for the taste, but scores high on the visual appeal too..You woud’nt know which local super market they come from ..The texture of the bread crumbs and egg wash compliments the soft and tasty potato and egg filling inside..Soft and tasty, the perfect homemade snack for your house or neighborhood events …Sure to emerge a winner .
